First commercially published edition, first issue – brown boards – leaf-patterned end-papers – all first issue points sated. A very good (or better) copy without inscriptions. A slight crack to the front hinge. Corners a touch rubbed, but a really lovely copy. The first trade edition has leaf-pattern end-papers and the text “wept big tears” on p. 51 (the text reads “cried big tears” in the privately printed edition; “wept big tears” in the first three impressions of the trade edition; and “shed big tears” from the fourth impression onwards).
