Barry Unsworth – Pascali’s Island – First Edition 1980
£125.00
£125.00
First edition, first printing. Published by Michael Joseph in London, 1980. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper, designed by Alun Hood, is with some slight wear to the bottom edges and some slight creasing. It has not been price clipped and shows the original £5.25 net price. The boards are free from chips and marks and the text blocks are bright and clean throughout. There is one small previous owners inscription to the front pastedown in blue ink, dated 19 March 1983. Overall, this is a near fine copy.
The year is 1908, the place, a small Greek island in the declining days of the crumbling Ottoman Empire. For twenty years Basil Pascali has spied on the people of his small community and secretly reported on their activities to the authorities in Constantinople.
