A first edition, first printing published by Putnam in 1955. A near fine book SIGNED on the title page ‘with best wishes/Roger Bannister/21.8.96’. In a good unclipped wrapper with loss to the head of the spine and to the edges and spine tips. Comes complete with an ALS from Bannister on his headed notepaper and dated 21.8.96 and reads: ‘Dear Bob (if I may)/I hope the book reaches you safely. It was very kind of you to provide the references and also the additional comment about indoors/outdoors. Thank you also for your comments about the book – like all adolescents I felt I had passed through another muddled period and it seemed that concentrating on running gave me a chance resolve some conflicts and begin to grow up. The book was written (aged 25) with the hope that others might find the experiences described helpful. I am very glad to know that you felt that it may have been helpful to you! With best wishes, Yours sincerely, Roger Bannister’
Superb pairing of the signed book and letter.
