Thanks Rosalind Hick’ (Agatha Christie’s Daughter).

Joan Hickson portrayed Agatha Christie’s iconic detective, Miss Marple, in the BBC series ‘Miss Marple’ (1984–1992 – started seven years after Christie’s death). Her performance is widely regarded as the most faithful adaptation of Christie’s vision. With her sharp eyes, quiet demeanour, and keen intellect, Hickson brought depth and authenticity to the role, embodying Miss Marple’s blend of warmth and steely determination. Christie herself once suggested Hickson play the part after seeing her in a 1946 stage production. Hickson’s portrayal, spanning 12 feature-length episodes, remains beloved for its subtlety, wit, and intelligence, making her the definitive Miss Marple for many fans of classic detective fiction. This is a unique association between writer and actor of the much loved series.
