First edition, first printing, Published by Collins Crime Club in London, 1954. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper is bright and highly presentable in a lush green. There is slight toning and handling marks on the rear panel and the spine is slightly sunned. It has not been price clipped and the original 10s. 6d. net price is showing. The boards are free from chips and marks and the text blocks are mostly clean. This copy is free from previous owners ink and is, overall, in near fine condition.
The novel opens in Morocco, where Hilary Craven is staying after a failed marriage. She plans to commit suicide, but is instead recruited by the British secret service for a mission. She is asked to impersonate the wife of a nuclear scientist who has recently disappeared. Hilary is soon transported to meet her new “husband”.
