First edition, first printing. Published Heinemann in London, 1952. This is a near fine copy, in a seamlessly restored dust wrapper. The corners and spine tips have been restored, though with a seamless result. It has not been price clipped and shows the original 15s net price. Though it does have some slight chipping at the corners and creasing at the edges, with very mild handling marks throughout. The boards, in the publishers green cloth are free from notable chips and marks. The text blocks are so slightly toned with some very sparse spotting. This copy is free from previous owners inscriptions and is, overall, in near fine condition.

The work is regarded by many to be Steinbeck’s most ambitious novel and by Steinbeck himself to be his magnum opus. Steinbeck stated about East of Eden: “It has everything in it I have been able to learn about my craft or profession in all these years,” and later said: “I think everything else I have written has been, in a sense, practice for this.”
