The dust wrapper has some slight bumping to the top and tail of the spine and some slight bumping to the hinge at the rear panel. It has not been price clipped and shows the original £9.50 net price. The boards are free from notable chips and marks, though hold some bumping at the top and tail of the spine, mirroring that of the dust wrapper, which also has a sight lean. The text blocks are bright and white, but have a small stain to the top corner and the internals free from previous owners ink. Overall, this is a near fine copy.
A novel about two women, two men, a dog, and their lives in the 1968 Prague Spring period of Czechoslovak history. Although written in 1982, the novel was not published until two years later, in a French translation (as L’insoutenable légèreté de l’être). The original Czech text was published the following year. It was also translated to English from Czech by Michael Henry Heim and published in The New Yorker’s March 19, 1984 issue under the “Fiction” section.
