A first edition, first printing of ‘Room At The Top’ published by Eyre and Spottiswoode in 1957. A near fine book (small name to the front endpaper) in near fine dust wrapper – signed by the author on the title-page, a few light spots to fore-edges, partial offsetting to endpapers, original cloth, slight fading at spine tips, light vertical crease to spine, dust-jacket with the yellow wraparound band, the band with a closed tear along one fold and slightly dusty, a couple of short closed tears to panel edges, one or two spots.
Braine’s defining novel of ambition, sex and class resentment, Room at the Top was one of the key books of post-war British realism and helped announce the arrival of the so-called “Angry Young Men”. Copies signed by Braine and retaining the original yellow wraparound band are particularly desirable.
