Evelyn Waugh – Scoop – SIGNED First Edition 1938 – In the first issue dust wrapper
£9,750.00
A first edition, first printing published by Chapman and Hall in 1938. A near fine book with some lightening to the spine. No inscriptions. Small brown mark to the top corner of the endpaper. A little spine fading and rubbing to the extremities. SIGNED by the Author on the title page. In the first state dust wrapper with ‘Daily Beast’ to the front panel. Unclipped and has benefitted from some professional restoration to the spine and edges.
The book’s original owner was Waugh’s acquaintance Pamela Chichester, from who he derived the label ‘Mrs Chichesterese’, for a genteel way of speaking observed in Henry Green’s work (Letters, p. 328). Rare signed.
