A first edition, first printing ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ published by Secker and Warburg in 1949. A fine book with only some light rippling to the prelims – minor rubbing. No inscriptions and internally very clean and appears unread – a superb example sans wrapper.
Nineteen Eighty-Four was first published in 1949, almost simultaneously in Britain and the United States. The British first edition appeared on 8 June 1949 from Secker & Warburg, Orwell’s long-time publisher, while Harcourt, Brace & Company issued the American edition five days later. Both printings reflected wartime paper shortages, resulting in modest production quality.
