£225.00

A first edition, first printing of The Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien, published by George Allen and Unwin, London in 1977. A fine copy free from internal inscriptions, slight ghosting to front and rear paste-downs and free end papers, text block bright and crisp with dark blue top-stain and map at the rear still present. In a near fine unclipped wrapper with light fading to the spine and bumping to the head of the spine, bumping to upper knuckles of front and rear flap folds, with one small chip to the upper knuckle of the rear flap fold.

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien is the mythic history of Middle-earth, presenting creation myths, heroic legends and tragic wars long before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It centres on the Silmarils, radiant jewels whose fate drives pride, rebellion and sorrow among Elves, Men and Gods. Written in an epic, biblical style, the book explores themes of power, loss, fate and the enduring struggle between light and darkness that shape the world’s ancient destiny forever.
